  1. It was pretty great, no? I also went ot the bell-ringing at Ground Zero yesterday evening, with Mark and my nephew–very moving. And Margaret Cho at the Apolllo was unbelievable–what a weekend!

My nephew leaves Tuesday so I am hoping you and I will be able to get together some time between then and September 9th…

  3. (only) Four More Months!

Glad to hear you were giving the Repugnantcans back a little of the hell they’ve been shovelling at us for the past few years….

And congrats on your LJ anniversary. Long may you type!

  5. I know what you mean. Somehow, I missed my one-year anniversary (June 23rd), but LJ has been a transformative experience. I used to make fun of for doing nothing but talk about LJ all the time. It was kind of like that exchange from the «rollerblading» sketch from The Kids In The Hall:

KEVIN: Hey! Would you two stop talking about rollerblading?
DAVE: Why? Are you afraid you’re missing out on something?
    KEVIN: YES! runs off

But I have Al to thank for introducing me to this whole thing. LJ has been a key to improving my psychological, social and sexual life a good deal, and I hope to apply what I’ve learned to help out with my professional and artistic life as well, hoping that the results will be as impressive.

  7. Hee hee! I was talking to my friend via phone at that moment and he was telling me when I was on camera – which is how I knew when to wave. Folks scoff when I whear lots of orange clothes, but I comes in very handy on certain occasions.

  10. Re: (only) Four More Months!

I am glad to know that the protests are happening in much greater proximity than in Boston – but I was sorry to hear how crappy the TV coverage was.

As for typing – my fingers are certifiably stubbier now than they were a year ago. But you’re the one who needs to do more wrting -when are you going to finish that biker/hippy/bear/stench/grease novel so I have some bedside reading?

  12. I don’t know what the heck the reason is, but thanks for the good wishes. I suppose one of the major reasons is that it enables me to have a glimpse into the heads of fine men such as yourself.

  14. My pleasure. I used to like marches a lot. Now, they just make me anxious. Gotta get over myself… or just embrace the fact that I am a behind-the-scenes subversive.

  16. Speaking of which, I’m long overdue for updating the photos section of my website. Frankly, I’m long overdue for updating anything on my website, but let’s not get into my sluggardly behaviour here…

  18. Thanks for the good wishes, and I’m sorry you weren’t here as well. I wish you would get it together and do something politically progressive for a change…

  21. biker project

I shot a little more footage last weekend at Badger. My intention was to get a few interviews with elder members, to get some of their perspectives on a club that’s celebrating their 50th anniversary. As usual, the Satyrs were much too busy being hosts, and I found myself busy being a laid-back guest, so I didn’t get much shot.
One of the Satyrs, Gary, has made a two-hour film using footage and photos shot over the 50-year history of the club, and showed a 4-minute preview one night. It’s very moving, and I eagerly look forward at its premier at their Anniversary party this November.
It made my own efforts look pale in comparison. Maybe my hopes of film festival screenings are too ambitious, but I’m going to continue work on this project, with my own take on this little-known facet of gay culture. I feel a need to preserve this heritage before it’s lost. Not just the Satyrs, but gay biker culture in general, is what I’m aiming for–past, present, and future.
