What’s going on…

Everyone here is familiar with the dilemma: the more involved and engrossing the life, the less time for reflection and the writing that might come from it. So while my life has been very rich these last few weeks, my posting has been at a standstill. To prime the pump, here are some things that are happening:

The new school year began on Sepember 7th. I may be a teacher but math isn’t my strong suit: I forgot to think that teice the students = twice the work. So there is much more running around and dealing with details, etc. I’m teaching twice as many classes as I was last year, and managing twice as much stuff. My work days are now overflowing into days where they shouldn’t.

On the home fromt I’ve been enteraining a visitor for the past month. It has been challenging – at times joyous and an awakening to different sorts of possibilities. But it hasn’t been the sort of thing I felt comfortable posting about.

I’ve begun making small forays into the new studio, which lies 45 munites away from me on the bus. I’m gradually feeling my way into some new work. Again too unformulated to really make for good reading.

I’ve been lucky enough to catch two remarkable cultural moments: Kiki and Herb at Carnegie Hall, and John Water’s “A Dirty Shame”. Both have made me happy to be the freak I am. I’m also getting to read my Friend Lynne’s new novel before publication.

All of this is the sort of thing that I will natter on endlessly about at some point in the future but not now, not now.

Sorry

  1. Very nice to read an update from you. Sounds busy and good… I’ve missed your insights, but totally understand the struggle between action and reflection.

Speaking of which, I am off to teach people how to raise money….

  3. Dammit, how am I supposed to stalk you if you’re never online? ;-{)>

Seriously, it’s good to hear from you and to know that all is OK. But I do wish you had more time for reflection, as I always enjoy reading your posts. Very thoughtful and fascinating.

I too had the opportunity to enjoy A Dirty Shame with a group o’ hot bears. Backdate a few days if you wanna read about it. I think it’s his best film since Cry Baby (which I thought was underrated)…maybe his best since Polyester (which, incidentally, was the first JW film I ever saw).

«Priming the pump,» eh? Between you and it’s impossible to escape the loaded terms this morning. I wonder what that means.

  5. Glad to see you come up for air! I’ve missed you.
Sounds like life is full of new challenges and opportunities–nice news. Gotta get myself out to see “A Dirty Shame”, too. Can’t miss this one!

  7. I know it might seem that all I am good for is vacuous flirting. But still, I can’t help but point out what a beautiful photo your new icon is, and how nice you look in it.
