Why is this so?
If you have Itunes, open your radio screen and look under the Jazz tab. You’ll find McVooty Radio, a channel devoted entirely to the music of Slim Gaillard. Now I love Gaillard, but I can’t imagine that his entire recorded output could total more than 48 hours at the outside. So why an entire channel just for him, given that there are only twenty jazz streams in all?
And here’s another question: if you were given a stream to dedicate to one artist, who would it be?
Peter Gabriel – Genesis -> Solo years

Sun Ra, Frank Zappa, and Chet Atkins were prolific (and diverse) enough to keep a stream interesting.
Personally, though, I’d choose Philip Glass, who’s done 50 or more albums of music, many of them multiple discs.

it would have to be Los Panchos. I’ve got 7 CDs of their work, (3 with Eydie Gormé!), they were a really suave guitar band that sung Boleros, and some romantic Cuban songs. You can really listen hard to what they’re doing or you can let it float around.

Philip Glass… and I could do it myself if I wanted to.
I have about 2 days worth of his works on my computer.

Bjork or Donna Summer, plenty of material for both.
Or, considering who I’ve been listening to all week, Psychedelic Furs.

This is kinda funny (to me) ’cause I can never remember (or pronounce) your LJ handle, so when I’m searching for it in my friends list the mnemonic I use for it is “Steve and Eydie”.

I kind of like the Steve and Eydie thing though, except they were so sycophantic to the Chairman of the Board

The Fall. Of course, one stream might not be enough. 😉

Back when Sun Ra was still alive, we did a couple of marathon Sun Ra shows at WRCT. Started with 24 hours, then expanded it to 72, by which point we’d pretty well touched every release we could find. (Just a song off each, though.) That was a pretty decent percentage of the discographies we could find, but there were still lots of Saturn releases that we couldn’t find. (Judging from the quality level of a lot of the Saturn records, that might not’ve been a bad thing.)
But yeah, Sun Ra could easily fill out his own channel, especially given the different styles he touched.

Just one?
I can’t pick just one. But I’d love to have hot and cold running Evan Parker, Cecil Taylor, Charles Mingus, Richie Hawtin, Astor Piazzola, Fela, or Augustus Pablo.
Today, at least.

Re: apropos…
because then the world would be minus one Shawn Eric, who OD’d on too much sonic joy at once:
“I know what you did
I saw it in my crystal
I saw you making love
I’m gonna get my pistol!”
