  1. Why did Beethoven come to mind when this picture came up? What an astonishingly handsome photograph. πŸ™‚ The simple white cupboards are the perfect backdrop as well. Oh I’m going to enjoy this printed and on my bulletin board here in my office to study some more. Thank you Nayland!

oh and since you asked – I’m also smiling.

  3. Medusa the Goddess-Queen!

Medusa was the name of goddess-queens long before becoming the name of the fairy tale monster. Medusa was another name for Metis, the goddess of wisdom that Zeus tricked into changing into a fly. When he swallowed her up, she was pregnant and Athena was born from his head – parthenogenesis, which is a great analogy for artistic creation. Here’s a link to a Medusa article on the Perseus Classics website.

  5. That’s a great picture. And I’m kind of fascinated with how the verical shadow on your forehead seems to be a continuation of the shadow at the edge of the right cupboard door. It’s almost like your face is becoming transparent.

  7. You should definitely post to Bros!
I like this one ’cause the pots on the top of the cupboard crate a tension, like they could tumble down on your tousled head at any moment.
Well, besides being charmed and petrified by the enchanting satyr below.

  9. Re: Monsters are the most interesting people

Actually, no. I was trying to find one with the hair wired up for the dynamite permanent but was unable.

I actually have a stuffed monster among my dust collectors.

  11. LOL – I will see if I can find any pics from my “mullet” and “mushroom cap” days to post. I doubt I still have any around, but for you I will try. πŸ™‚

As a side note, I remember very clearly an incident at the Lonestar in San Fran. It was sometime in the afternoon, and I wandered in and sat at the bar. I overheard the bartender and a patron discussing my “mushroom cap” hair style. Both queens, who had miles of tafetta flowing from their pursed lips, quipped that I must have been a hairdresser of some sort to be sporting “that coif”. I think that was the first and only time, I made it a point to leave without tipping the stupid fuck, er bartender at a bar.

  13. I had my hair this long back in school, largely because I couldn’t be bothered with getting it cut. I too looked like Medusa, although with me the hair was thicker so the “tentacles” were thicker and more rigid.

My mother eventually insisted that I haul myself off to the barber and get it lopped.
