What, more snow?

I’ve been feeling out of it for days now, actually going home sick with what felt initially fluish but seems more like exhaustion, seeing as I slept 13 hours subsequently. I’m lucky I don’t own a three ended candle, since they’d all be alight. Wallowed in Project Runway last night and I know it will please some folks to know that I have now finally and officially seen Donnie Darko. (sorry Matt, I know I was supposed to wait, but the netflix envelope kept taunting me). And now I hear more snow is on the way to New York today. For those of you who are new subscribers.

Much of the art I see these days makes me sad – and now I’m off to see many, many images of not very good work.

  3. I think that what you need is a nice firm-but-gentle neckrub of the variety that I am good at giving.

There’s a bit of snow falling out my window right now. It’s the fluffy, benign kind, not the mean, wet, malevalent kind.

  5. I was ready, willing, and available when it tempted you first, and you insisted we watch another movie, if you’ll recall.

What did you think of Donnie?

I finally watched Panic Room last night (one of my favorite directors and one of my fave performers, yet it debuted when I was in Michigan and couldn’t get to a theatre). It was a kick, though the Forrest Whitaker nice-guy ending was pretty implausible. (Does he have that written into all his contracts?) Creepily, the whole thing was filmed on West 94th Street – did you know?

The Gates make me sad, though that has little to do with their artistic merit.

Sorry you’re feeling punky. Hope to see you Saturday.

  7. synchronicity?

I am reading the line where you mention Donnie Darko and in that moment Gary Jules’ “Mad World” from that movie comes on my internet radio station. Almost creepy…in a cool way.

Also, what is it about the art that makes you sad?

  9. sad sad sad sad [why must i be sad?]

    oh
it makes me sad that everyone asks you what art is making you sad!
    (laughs)
but that’s what i get: a thwack on the head [why? because of what we are]

    but
    seriously
how did mr Darko make you feel?
    think?
    common, give us a review.

i just went and saw “the nomi song”
and it didn’t make me sad
it was more like a fable with a story:

    remember your community of friends
and being lonely should be paid attention to
    not glossed over
    because dying alone . . .

(all of his closest friends were so pissed off at him, none were there…)

    Dying alone.
    “we all die alone”

that’s one of the things that struck me most about the film… (donnie, that is)
and i won’t go on about it more now
    just that…
i know why he was laughing
and i’m so glad for him.

  11. Aren’t they? Having the pricetag right in the middle of the forehead and everything.

Don’t be too insulted. I tend to think of you anytime I see an unusual appearance of rabbits.
