Into the white…

For the first time in a long time I’m in bed, with my laptop on top of my lap, reading and and now posting. Yesterday I managed to set foot in four of New York’s five boroughs, racing around cheacking on my students in Long Island City, and fetching up at badfaggot‘s mom’s place on Staten Island, for some poker, where I won much more money than my playing deserved. The day ended with a stunning ferry ride back into Manhattan. Right now I’m marvelling at how great Godzilla versus Megalon looks. CGI has nothing on those Toho studio explosions.

One of the things that has been keeping me from here has been the barrage of events accompaning the end of the school year: next Saturday, the first group of eight students graduates from the Master’s program I’ve been heading for the past three years. In anticipation of that event we have been having final thesis boards, end of the year crits and other ceremonies. It’s been lurch to work, stumble home into bed and back again.

  1. Congratulations on completing the first cycle of the program. Must feel good to see things coming to fruition.

Nice to see your icon pop back onto my screen.

  2. Welcome back to LJ. We’ve missed you.

However difficult it’s been, your stars are certainly now in alignment. Evidence:

    – Winning an obscene, record-setting amount of money at low-stakes poker (breaking my record, at least I still hold the record for losing the most amount of money the fastest)

    – A leftover hotdog, by virtue of Soup being too sick to have it

    – Your cigars burning properly, for once

    – Food to take home just for showing up!

  3. Might I add to the chorus saying how good it is to see your furry, smilin’ face on LJ again. Welcome back!

Wow, I haven’t thought about Godzilla vs. Megalon. Lots of folks are down on that one, but I enjoyed it. Heck, anything’s better than the Minya films. Especially the one where Minya talks. They should have immediately transferred that one to flammable nitrate stock and stored it in a hot, dry wooden room next to a box of oily rags.

Then again, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen Godzilla vs. Megalon without robots (if you know what I mean, and I think you do). This applies to Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster and…pretty much any Gamera film, for that matter.

  4. I can’t tell you how happy I am that you came, and that you liked the pineapple pie.

Good luck to us both this finals week – looking forward to seeing more of you this summer.
