Chilling…

…. this appears to be a blog from someone in the middle of New Orleans: interdictor It reads like Richard Matheson’s “I Am Legend” which was the basis for “The Omega Man”.

  1. Thanks for this link, I have been devouring the info there. Pretty chilling stuff, unless he’s exaggerating, and I don’t think he is.

    Excerpt:

In case anyone in national security is reading this, get the word to President Bush that we need the military in here NOW. The Active Duty Armed Forces. Mr. President, we are losing this city. I don’t care what you’re hearing on the news. The city is being lost. It is the law of the jungle down here. The command and control structure here is barely functioning. I’m not sure it’s anyone’s fault — I’m not sure it could be any other way at this point. We need the kind of logistical support and infrastructure only the Active Duty military can provide. The hospitals are in dire straights. The police barely have any capabilities at this point. The National Guard is doing their best, but the situation is not being contained. I’m here to help in anyway I can, but my capabilities are limited and dropping. Please get the military here to maintain order before this city is lost.

    Wow.

  2. I don’t mean to diminish what this guy is writing, but check out his interests and groups — “assassination, crisis management, rescue operations, target interdiction, termination” and “abovetopsecret, atheism, conservatism, debate, deism, father_figures, guns, liberal2, libertarianism, loyno, madbardmusic, nawlins30plus, neworleans, real_men” He seems to have an edge to him. Having read his postings from the past few days, I’m starting to wonder about the lens through which he’s seeing.

  3. Good point. I hadn’t noticed the guy’s interests. I suppose it’s interesting that I’m more willing to believe some random guy before I believe the media or our administration. First-hand accounts are always more interesting to me than the product of the media’s filter & spin, but I forget that they can be dubious as well.

  4. I agree with you and share the impulse to believe. However, just as the media has made so many blunders in naming whites as “finders” and blacks as “looters,” I find myself wondering what his use of “law of the jungle” means.

  5. Reading further back you can see that he has a ready been questioned on the racial implications of some of what he’s posted. It’s pretty clear that his backround is in the military, and that that is an integral part of his world view.

  6. I saw the site early this morning. While cruising through his words and images, I wondered about his viewpoint when he swapped ‘looter’ for ‘terrorist’. When a city is demolished, people have lost everything, and the majority of those who remained were probably too poor to have the means to leave, looting doesn’t seem like such a crime. I wonder how I’d react in such a situation.

It’s an interesting read…with the awareness that it’s a unique viewpoint.

  7. Has he responded to the questions about the racial implications of his postings? I have to say as much as I appreciate the view he’s providing, I’m not sure I can wade through the tons of comments he’s received.

I got his military background from his postings… although I will admit that I had “soldier of fortune” thoughts, too. The ex-military folks that I know tend to be a little offended by some of his ways of being and speaking.

In any event, I suspect that it’s as useful a slice as NBC is providing.
