Went to the Martin Puryear show at the Modern. I love his work: precise, thoughtful, ambitious, yet matter-of-fact in it’s effects. I’m torn about the show, which seems to favor pieces that on the whole are more settled than many of the things I’ve seen from him in the past. There’s a fair amount of work, but I wish there was that much more, more things that showed him in all his moods. One of my favorite things was large wall mounted cone made of stretched rawhide, which combines careful crafting and visceral material choice.

I plan on going back at least one more time during the show’s run.
