Why so big..?

Given that typing in all capitals is the online version of shouting, why do today’s keyboards have such large, prominently placed caps lock keys? I understand that the qwerty layout has remained standard even though it isn’t the most efficient, but is it really the trained touch typists who are keeping that key where it is, in the place (next to the “a”) where it is so very likely to be struck by hamfisted oafs like myself?

When was the last time that you really needed the caps lock key? Couldn’t it be banished to the “F1” line, or at least shrunk?
