Thank you, series of tubes…

If anyone tells you there are no good people in the world, you can offer them this contrary example:

Late yesterday I got this email – “Are you by any chance missing a camera? It has what looks like your work on it.” It turns out that on Thanksgiving my Canon did indeed fall out of my bag onto the platform at my local subway stop, where someone picked it up. They were visiting from Europe, just about to return, and not wanting to trust the camera to the MTA, took it back with them. Then somehow through looking at the pictures that were on it, they managed to track me down online, sending me the relevant quote from this blog about me losing the camera. We’re now working out the arrangements for getting it back.

I am, as they say, gobsmacked. It would have been the easiest thing in the world for them to simply keep it. And yet, half a world away, they were willing to make the effort. If that’s not good hearted, I don’t know what is.
