Felled by weather…

It’s chilly here now. Time to return to the rituals of temperature regulation in the shower: my landlord’s aged water heater and whimsical pipes mean that the water goes from tepid (25 seconds) to steam (1 minute, 16 seconds) to frigid (6 minutes). any attempts to even out the temp means dexterity like a safe cracker’s applied to the funky taps. As an added pleasure, there is a 4 second delay between the tap adjustment and any result. So imgine the intricate ballet that occurs in the morning as I attemt to manipulate the taps, lather, rinse, soap, adjust etc., etc. Is it any wonder I stink perhaps more than I should?
On a lighter note I woke myself up in the wee hours with a series of ideas for piieces, got out my notebook, recorded them actactually got back to sleep! Will any of them turn into actual pieces? I dunno, but I’m attracted to this idea that involves fifty video monitors and a lot of slapping.
Yesterday my collaborator sent me pictures of our pieces installed in the show at Yerba Buena in San Franciso. Everything looks a little creepy, and a little sad. I wonder if it’s chilly there.

  1. If you’re tired of doing the two-step when you can barely walk and have soap in your eyes, you should do what I do: take a bath. The only problem is it sometimes feels so good you don’t want to get out. There’s even a water-yoga movement and position to rinse off your top half where you’re flat on your back with your legs in the air, practicing which comes in handy for other stuff, too.

And dude, how about some more info about your piece at the Yerba Buena Center (http://www.yerbabuenaarts.org/va/current/10by20.html) for those of us geographically impaired? What’s the playlist? What’s with the plants under the growlight? I saw a couple shows there last time I was visiting, ya got to love a space that fearlessly programs Mario Bava, Dario Argento, Andy Warhol, Japanese children’s anime, and vintage gay porn all in the same film festival. I really wish I had a transporter so I could get there and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis whenever I wanted.

  2. Calgon – take me away….

The only problem is that at 6’2″ and 304 pounds my tub is more like a fingerbowl, even though it’s an antique and fairly good sized. What I lust for is a Japanese style tub where you sit rather than lie down. Takes up less space and then all of me can be wet at once.
Yerba Buena is a really interesting space. I was on the Board of Directors when it opened. I’ll tell you more about the pieces presently. But i have to say that if you get a transporter then I want to be at the other end, as opposed to the Walker!
