…as in prose style. I’m reading Joan Acocella’s Twenty-Eight Artists and Two Saints and it’s very good. The critical essay is a much more demanding form than most people might believe, particularly when one is taking the time to actually sympathetically repesent the creative processes of one’s subjects. There is a dry gravity to Acocella’s writing that still retains a warmth of enthusiasm. I wish I could accomplish that.
