By now many of you have probably heard about the two police officers shot after a traffic stop in Brooklyn. The story is the lead in both of the tabloids here in NY, and got a lot of TV news coverage last night. It happened two blocks from my house, and for the entire day cops swarmed my neighborhood. Two different teams of detectives interviewed me in my doorway, asking whether or not I had heard anything, how long I’d lived in the apartment, whether I knew ________ (presumably a suspect). Crime scene tape festooned one end of my block which meant that Lehigh had to find an alternate route. She was nonplussed. Traffic was rerouted a round an eight block area, and by noon, posters had gone up offering a $10,000 reward for information. The above photo was taken around 9pm last night. Patrol cars were still blocking the crosswalks in the area. I don’t have a whole lot to say about this, other than to note how jarring and surreal the sudden police presence was.
