Bored, with itchy fingers…

You know what? I need to fuckin draw more. I was at the Tom of Finland Erotic Art Fair in NYC this weekend and saw some drawings that just made me green with envy. And I got in some drawing time too this weekend, turning out some things for my gallery to take to the Basel Art Fair – which I guess is next weekend. All you folks in Switzerland: there’s some art coming your way that was just pencil lead a week ago.

But the truth is I don’t draw enough – I can turn it out when I need to, but drawing is like playing your scales: do it enough and your technique noticeably improves. I’ve only done one residency in my life, but I would love to do one where all I did was draw for a few weeks. Maybe have a couple of models come in.

Okay, now this is officially entering the realm of workplace daydreaming.

(on an amusing side note – here’s what LJ’s spell checker suggested instead of “fuckin”: fucking, fuck in, fuck-in, firkin, frickin, ducking, faking, fuck, fuckings, funking, bucking, lucking, mucking, pucking, sucking, tucking, yucking, forking, fuguing, Fijian, fucks, Fagin, flicking, dicking, fucker, fluking, fuck’s, fucked, duking, Fuji)

  1. “Fijian” is my new euphemism of choice. How scary is it that the tendrils of the Harry Potter phenomenon have extended to the point where Microsoft Word spellcheck recognizes “Azkaban”?

And I also vote for the more drawing.

Oh, Nayland…if I was only able to magically transport you to Alfred for the two week life drawing workshop I’m currently teaching. Lots of space, natural/controlled lighting situations and very nifty tableaux. Boy and girl models posing, simultaneously! It’s a life drawing wonderland!

  3. I’ve just finished “Eats, shoots and leaves”. Believe me when I tell you that I left the apostrophe off deliberately, since to me it seems blunter, and less like an upper class person attempting to render dialect into written language.

  4. Hey, at least you CAN draw. I’m helpless there, and so I have to simply live in awe of people like Robin Walden, TC, Mancerbear, Jugga and others. (Yes, I’m mostly referring to nekkid/erotic bear art here, what can I say — my mind’s currently stuck in the gutter.)

  5. Feh!

I picked up the book last week and saw that the Introduction was written by Frank McCourt. I promptly returned the book to the shelf.

(And doesn’t the author use an ampersand in the title?)

  7. Irish Fekk Ups and Fook Ups

The interesting thing about ‘s posts is that he’s spelling out one pronunciation in Irish usage, but the more classical fook up is actually fekk up or fekkin. Who knew there was a formal usage for nasty ass cursing in Irish usage? It’s in Joyce and in O’Casey, though I can’t think of any more current examples.
